Well engineer

 

The Well Abandonment Engineer is part of the well engineering, well services and well operations department. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient preparation, planning and execution of all works related to the Plug and Abandonment of wells under his command

The team is composed of well abandonment engineers and a well operations superintendent (when operations call for it) and works under the Wells and P&A Manager to ensure a seamless integration with the rig is achieved.

 

Key Responsibilities:

General:

  • Ensures to understand and act in compliance with Petrodec’ policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that all work assigned to him/her is carried out in accordance with the instructions of Wells and P&A Manager
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with client personnel, ensuring effective operational performance and enhance new business opportunities.
  • Shares technical knowledge and perceived commercial opportunities with the organization
  • Promotes and ensures awareness of effective waste segregation and prevention of spillage, energy- and material waste, and emissions to air
  • Demonstrates clear (Safety) leadership and sets a high standard of quality, health and safety and environmental awareness to prevent incidents from happening.
  • Takes an active role in emergency response when required
  • Co-ordinates and supervises on all matters pertaining to the safety of the unit and personnel in relation to the wells operations
  • Ensures projects are safely coordinated and executed within budget and according to the company’s management system
  • Ensures staff are encouraged to participate in maintaining and improving the company performance
  • Supports the development and improvement of plans, policies, methods, standards, and procedures for the (technical) work performed on the unit as requested by the line manager
  • Monitors the safety aspects of the operation of the unit and ensures that adequate resources and shore base support are applied as required.
  • Is fully conversant with well services, well engineering and well operations duties

 

Engineering:

  • Drives and plans the engineering planning of the well abandonment of which he is in charge
  • Maintain an accurate planning of deliveries and ensure that documentation is prepared on time
  • Maintains a level of accuracy and expectations and the engineering of the well abandonment by challenging and asking the right questions
  • Prepares high level engineering reviews for management and participates in regular technical meeting
  • Ensures that the right analysis are performed including post mortems and after action review

 

Operations:

  • Works with the Wells and P&A Superintendent and ensures that operations are conducted as per plan, as per industry standards and that changes are carefully checked
  • Ensure that activities are conducted in a safe manner and in compliance with company policy, procedures, and statutory requirements
  • Ensure all well activities are undertaken in compliance with Petrodec well procedures
  • Help and assist the superintendent with changes of plans in and in complex situations
  • Monitor daily progress and ensure the project schedule is maintained
  • Contribute to investigations of incidents when required
  • Contribute to project close out and lessons learned
  • Cooperates with the team in the development and execution of HAZID’s/HAZOP’s
  • Ensures that all team members are suitably qualified and / or experienced, competent, and aware of the scope of their responsibility and the limits of their authority, and work in accordance with the company policy
  • Ensures that incidents and nonconformities within his area of responsibility are recorded, resolved and examined to prevent recurrence
  • Reviews safety reports from the units and ensures that appropriate action is taken to rectify defects
  • Monitors and controls the follow up on (Engineering) Change Request systems and Corrective action database, which are running on the units
  • Prepares project documentation including obtaining quotations for equipment and services

 

Skills:

  • Can work under pressure
  • Ability to successfully plan, organize, delegate and complete assigned tasks in an efficient and safe way, both in a team as independently
  • Able to work remotely, from the offshore team, client, and other stakeholders and effectively manage combined operations
  • Able to manage or participate in major emergencies response
  • Confident with reading, speaking, writing, and understanding English, and able to establish effective communication
  • Able to effectively liaise with stakeholders on work scope and (technical) requirements

 

Experience/Qualifications:

  • The preferred educational level and amount of experience for this function is:
  • Master of engineering in well/Petroleum/mechanical and at least 5 years of well engineering and operations experience
  • involving role in Work Overs or Well Abandonment campaigns. Offshore (on site) and office experience are required
  • Previous experience managing projects, team and strategic change implementation (internalization for instance)
