Environmental and Sustainability Advisor

About the company

Petrodec is a decommissioning services specialist integrating the whole value chain. We own our assets and provide first-class engineering support in well abandonment, offshore operations’ preparation, as well as structural removal and transport. Headquartered in the Netherlands, Petrodec is a growing business. We are proud to be playing our part in supporting the oil & gas sector through the challenges of returning marine environments back to their natural states, with the majority of the decommissioned material being repurposed or recycled.

Role:

Due to growth in the business, we are looking to recruit an Environmental Advisor to support the environmental compliance of our operations. You will work within the QHSE team, and report to the Senior Environmental and Sustainability Advisor. The main focus of the role is preparing the environmental permit applications to UK and Dutch regulators for our offshore decommissioning projects, along with supporting Petrodec’s Environmental Management System, and assisting in developing the company’s sustainability strategy.

The North Sea has many environmental sensitivities. To minimise the impact, we carefully undertake environmental assessments and put in place suitable mitigation measures. It is the role of the Environmental Advisor to help prepare the Environmental Impact Assessment reports and supporting documents required for the permit applications. We utilise available geospatial data and scientific reports, and commission additional field studies and reports as required, to collate information on environmental sensitivities. Effective collaboration and communication with other Petrodec teams, such as Engineering, Operations and Wells departments, as well as clients and regulators, is essential.

Environmental permits cover a wide variety of topics, including chemicals usage, oily water discharges, oil pollution emergency response (OPEP), atmospheric emissions and international shipment of waste. As we work in the marine environment, ecological receptors considered are seabirds, fish, marine mammals, benthic species, as well as protected habitats such as Marine Protected Areas.

The QHSE team is also responsible for developing the company’s Sustainability Strategy. You will be part of the team working on this exciting next step for the company, and have the opportunity to start at the beginning, developing the sustainability roadmap and producing our fist Sustainability Report.

Other tasks include support for Petrodec’s ISO14001 certified Environmental Management System, through preparing or updating environmental procedures, tracking environmental KPIs and conducting environmental audits. Support sister companies with Dutch environmental permits may be required.
